Bombardier

Validation of DFMA method & tool

Bombardier has adjusted the DFMA methodology (Design for Manufacturing and Assembly), developed by Flanders Make, for its own construction processes. The company also makes use of the manufacturability measuring tool, which compares different designed concepts and predicts the degree of manufacturability of new and modified designs at an early stage.

Thanks to the use of the DFMA method and tool, Bombardier could lower the production cost of the parts manufactured by subcontractors (e.g. the production of air ducts, interior panels...) as well as its own assembly costs. The use of DFMA also avoids the need for retrospect constructional changes.
